Philip José Farmer (ur. 26 stycznia 1918), amerykański pisarz science fiction i fantasy.

W wielu utworach Farmera pojawiają się znane postacie literackie i historyczne. Przykładami tego typu utworów jest The Other Log of Phileas Fogg, będący uzupełnieniem powieści W osiemdziesiąt dni dookoła świata Julesa Verne'a. Wśród bohaterów tych powieści i opowiadań często przewijają się pulpowi bohaterowie Tarzan i Doc Savage. W powieści The Adventure of the Peerless Peer pojawiają się zarówno Tarzan, jak i Sherlock Holmes.

Jego cykl Świat Rzeki opowiada o dziejach postaci takich jak Richard Burton, Hermann Göring czy Samuel Clemens w dziwacznym życiu pozagrobowym, w którym wszyscy żyjący kiedykolwiek ludzie zostali równocześnie ożywieni w jednej dolinie rzeki rozciągającej się na całą planetę.
